DERMAL FILLER TREATMENT GUIDE
Pre-Treatment Advice
To ensure the safest and most effective results:
1. 1 Week Before Treatment:
• Avoid blood thinners: Stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, and alcohol unless prescribed. These increase risk of bruising.
• No active skin treatments: Avoid facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments.
2. 3 Days Before Treatment:
• Avoid alcohol and excess caffeine.
• Hydrate well – healthy skin responds better to filler.
3. Day of Treatment:
• Come with clean skin – no makeup, creams, or SPF.
• Eat beforehand to avoid feeling faint.
• Notify your practitioner of:
• Recent dental work (within 2 weeks).
• Pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies.
• History of cold sores (may need antiviral prophylaxis).
Post-Treatment Aftercare Instructions
To promote healing and minimize side effects:
First 24–48 Hours:
• DO NOT touch, press, or massage the treated areas unless instructed.
• Avoid makeup for at least 12 hours.
• Cold compress (not ice directly) can reduce swelling/bruising.
• Avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, and saunas/steam rooms.
• Sleep on your back with head elevated to reduce swelling.
First 1–2 Weeks:
• Avoid facials, dental work, and any other aesthetic procedures.
• Avoid sun exposure and heat to prevent increased swelling or inflammation.
• You may experience:
• Mild swelling, bruising, tenderness (common and resolves within a week).
• Small lumps or firmness at injection site (usually temporary).
I also offer a complimentary review appointment 2 weeks after your procedure to assess your results and make any necessary adjustments, ensuring you’re completely happy with your outcome. Follow-up support is always available if you have any questions or concerns.
Before & After Expectations
Immediately After Treatment:
• Mild to moderate swelling and redness.
• Results visible but not final – allow 1–2 weeks to settle.
• Possible asymmetry in early days due to swelling.
1 Week Post-Treatment:
• Swelling and bruising typically resolved.
• Product integrates into tissue; smoother and more natural look appears.
• Final shape becoming apparent.
2 Weeks Post-Treatment:
• Optimal results visible.
• If touch-up is needed, it’s usually done at this stage.
Longevity:
• Depending on product type and treatment area: 6–18 months.
• Areas with high mobility (lips) may metabolize faster than static areas (cheeks).
When to Contact a Medical Professional
Advise your patient to seek urgent help if they experience:
• Severe pain or discoloration (white, dusky, or mottled skin) – sign of vascular occlusion.
• Blistering or signs of infection (increased redness, heat, pus).
• Unusual or persistent swelling beyond 10 days.
• Visual disturbances (medical emergency).
