LED Light Therapy – Non-Invasive Skin Rejuvenation

LED (Light Emitting Diode) Therapy is a clinically proven, non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to target skin concerns at a cellular level. Backed by extensive scientific research and widely used in both medical and aesthetic settings, LED therapy works by stimulating the skin’s natural healing processes, improving cellular function, and enhancing overall skin health without any downtime.

Each wavelength penetrates the skin at different depths to trigger targeted responses such as collagen production, inflammation reduction, and antibacterial action — making it an effective treatment for ageing skin, acne, sensitivity, and dullness.

At Serenity Aesthetics, I use professional-grade LED technology to deliver safe, controlled, and effective light energy tailored to your individual skin needs.

Understanding Red vs. Blue LED Light Therapy

LED therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to target different layers of the skin and address distinct concerns. The two most commonly used therapeutic wavelengths are Red Light (630–660nm) and Blue Light (405–420nm) — each offering unique benefits depending on the skin condition being treated.

Red Light Therapy (630–660nm)

Best for ageing, inflammation, and repair

Red light penetrates deep into the dermal layers of the skin, stimulating fibroblast activity and promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for maintaining skin firmness, structure, and elasticity.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improves skin texture, tone, and hydration
  • Accelerates wound healing and post-procedure recovery
  • Calms redness and inflammation (ideal for rosacea or sensitive skin)
  • Improves circulation and lymphatic drainage for a healthy glow

Blue Light Therapy (405–420nm)

Best for acne-prone, congested, or oily skin

Blue light targets the sebaceous glands and penetrates the uppermost layer of the skin to kill acne-causing bacteria (P. acnes). This reduces breakouts, inflammation, and helps regulate excess oil production — without causing irritation or dryness.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Antibacterial action — kills acne-causing bacteria
  • Reduces active breakouts and inflammation
  • Minimises pores and controls excess oil
  • Supports clearer, calmer skin without harsh chemicals
  • Can be safely combined with topical or systemic acne treatments

Combined Therapy

In many protocols, red and blue light are used together in a dual-wavelength treatment to target both acne and inflammation, or to support healing while treating breakouts. This dual-action approach is particularly beneficial for acne-prone skin with signs of sensitivity or post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Treatment Benefits:
• Reduces fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen and elastin
• Improves skin tone, texture, and radiance
• Calms redness, inflammation, and sensitivity (ideal for rosacea or post-treatment care)
• Supports healing following microneedling, injectables, or resurfacing treatments
• Fights acne-causing bacteria and regulates oil production
• Enhances lymphatic drainage and skin detoxification
• Safe for all skin types with no discomfort or recovery time

Treatment Plan:
• A course of 6–10 sessions is recommended for optimal cumulative results
• Treatments are typically spaced 1–2 times per week depending on your skin concerns
• Can be used as a standalone skin rejuvenation treatment or as an add-on to enhance results from microneedling, radiofrequency, chemical peels, polynucleotides, exosomes, or skin boosters
• Ideal for both targeted treatment or maintenance between other procedures

Before & After Expectations:
• You may notice an immediate post-treatment glow and smoother skin tone
• Results are progressive, with improvements in skin clarity, texture, and firmness visible over 3–6 weeks
• Helps maintain and prolong the benefits of other advanced treatments
• No downtime — you can return to normal activities immediately after treatment

Downtime:
• No downtime or recovery period required
• LED is painless, non-thermal, and does not cause irritation or skin sensitivity
• May be used immediately following more invasive treatments to accelerate healing

Aftercare Advice:
• No specific aftercare required; however, to enhance and maintain results:
• Hydrate the skin and continue with a gentle skincare routine
• Avoid strong exfoliants or active ingredients for 24 hours if combined with another treatment
• Apply SPF daily to protect your skin and maintain a healthy glow
• Regular treatments and a tailored home care routine will support long-term skin rejuvenation
